Details about how to read the specified scriptures portions (Prepared by Mr. Shyam Winston)

We thank Mr Shyam Winston (our Adviser for Restructuring Process) for preparing & providing ‘The Bible Reading Plan’.

Preparation for Reading
* Read one chapter a day in your personal time
* Remember this is not a Bible study but Bible meditation
* Quieten yourself briefly before Bible Meditation
* A song, a prayer or a few moments of silence or worship or praise is appropriate.

Reading method

* Read three (3) times the chapter assigned every day
* The first time just read the entire chapter in one go
* During the second reading pause to observe the key words and phrases in the chapter
* When you read the third time PRAY to the Lord to speak to you
* Ask the Lord to illumine the passage after reading it.
* Keep meditating about the passage all trough the day and keep notes in a journal

Get Bible Tools

* Check out the the dates (exact date and even the day are ascertainable)
* Look at the Maps
* Look up at the Cross references
* Use charts and graphs
* Don’t overlook the figures and pictures (lot of imagery in these chapters)

Understand

* The Historical period (Why this period is important)
* The Geographical situations (movement between places)
* The Political scenario (changing empires)
* The Religious atmosphere (New ones in, old ones out)

My Story

* The books are full of characters – their stories, their weakness and strengths. The times they lived, the opportunities they had and the challenges they faced. Most importantly their contribution to the Kingdom of God. Look for life lessons from them.
* Read the Books as if you are reading your biography: “I am Daniel”, “I am Esther”, “I am Haggai” “I am Nebuchadnezzar”
* What would I have done in such a situation?
* Where do I recognize or identify myself with the author and where am I different?
* What qualities of these Bible Characters should I emulate in my own life?

Three takeaways every day

* What are the key teachings in the Chapter?
* What is the Lord saying to me thro this passage – comfort, confess, correct, change, guide, encourage, act
* What is the call, this chapter gives to the students and graduates of UESI today?
* The big key objective of reading every day: How did they affect the Kingdom? How can I affect the Kingdom of God today positively?
* Ask the Lord to give the grace to obey what He has taught through the passage
* Commit yourself to God

Blog / Share

* Register your name and email id at the blog
* Read others postings.

Note

* All these steps (three readings, meditation, prayer and commitment) can be done in one go or split into morning, evening, night or whenever or however suits you.

UESI State Units Role

* Translate and Communicate it in the local language to all the constituent members.
* Consider a blog in the local language
* We want seven UESI states to take responsibility for each book to prepare introductory material for each of the seven books. They should feed only background info about the book without commenting on the text in the blog, on the first day of the reading of that book
* Provide a hardcopy of this presentation in Word, pass around this ppt to others and facilitate reading in their states especially for the vernacular speaking constituency and those who have no access to net.

Wanted: Servants of the Word

* We need sixty-five persons to choose and moderate one chapter a day, in the blog, during the process. They have to
* Consolidate each date, the major learning's
* Ensure that abusive or wrong postings are deleted

GS Letter to the UESI on Bible Reading Plan

From
Bro.JSA Julius, the President,
David Jayakumar, the General Secretary
and
Mr. C. Julius, the Chairman of the Planning & evaluation of UESI

To
All the members of UESI Family

Dear everyone,
Sub: Planning consultation 2009 (13th to 15th November at Nagpur)
Greetings to you all in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please go through the following content of the letter, read it in your respective EUs and EGFs and discuss the matter in your respective Zonal, state, regional, district and local committees.
With brio and vivacity UESI launched a comprehensive 10 year plan in the year 2000. Now the time has come to review the progress, analyze the process and embark on a new 10 year plan called Vision 2020. The rapid and sweeping changes in the political, economic, cultural and scientific fronts have greater impact on the life and life style of young students and have thrown open many new challenges. Bygone days are so different from the present. Time is at the premium now. Pressure of work has its toll on young minds. The general morale seems to be dwindling. Compromising attitude is creeping into the lives. But the Gospel and its impact remain the same. Since UESI deals with young students, it is appropriate to take stock of the realities and make practical plans. The hard lesson that we have learnt is that quality is as important to us as quantity. Ministry expansion in terms of geographical reach is not a substitute for one to one discipleship. That is why we need a thorough evaluation of the Vision 2010 plan and its implementation and come up with a carefully drafted Vision 2020 plan. Apart from drawing up the Vision 2010 document, the UESI has contemplated on bringing out a set of Strategic Priorities in line with the 4 aims of UESI. Some of the priorities for example are 1. Sharing and Shaping (Evangelism & Discipleship) 2. Global Impact (Raising testimony and imparting missions’ awareness and training) 3. Good Governance etc. But the UESI is now at the threshold of identifying the Strategic Priorities now. The items are still under consideration.
Secondly, the leadership of UESI felt that it to be appropriate to peep into the administrative structures and make necessary changes which could not only facilitate the implementation of Vision 2020 but also address various administrative lacunae.
Thirdly, The leadership of UESI has felt the need of using software system to capture the data and process it with ease.
To realize all these three things, a preliminary consultation was organized in Delhi on the 9th of July, 2009 and another preparatory meeting was held in Bangalore on 1st August, 2009. As a result 3 task groups are formed the details of which are given below.
1. Vision 2020 Task-group
¬ To revisit Vision Statement of UESI.
¬ To write down a Mission Statement for UESI.
¬ To revisit / refine, if need be our Core- values.
¬ To define strategic directives for the next 5/10 years for the ministry of UESI.

2. Restructuring Task-group (Governance & management)
¬ To review the current structure and recommend an appropriate organizational structure for UESI which will help in delivering the strategic directives.
¬ To define positions, role-set (reporting & critical relationships) for each position, levels of authorities across UESI.
¬ To relook at legal requirements and also roles played by graduates, students and staff.

3. MIS (Management Information System)Task group
¬ To provide a software solution for Ministry Planning and Monitoring System (MPMS) for UESI, which will help to capture critical data and track the ministry at various levels of UESI.
To bring this whole concept to fruition, a unique plan is thought about by the concerned people involved in the planning exercise. This plan is called Bible Reading Plan christened as Soaring Eagle UESI. The term ‘soaring eagle’ conveys something important. To renew itself, an eagle goes to a secret quite place in the mountains and plucks out its feathers and breaks its beak by hitting against the rock. But as a result, after a few months, the beak and the feathers grow. The new eagle soars high in the sky full of youthfulness to live its next phase of life. Even as UESI seeks to make plans and changes for its next fresh phase of life and ministry, it needs to wait on the Lord to renew itself. We need to depend on God and His precious Word for correction and guidance. Since this planning that we are talking about is a critical exercise, it is important to seek God’s mind in the entire process of planning and final decision making. It is therefore proposed that the entire constituency reads the Scriptural portions together and pray together. This will ensure that the process is soaked in the Word and Prayer. Joint Reading and sharing of thoughts may eliminate personal prejudices and presuppositions.
No organizational Reengineering is effective without the personal reengineering of hearts, minds and spirits. We underline the value that devotions, God’s Word and Prayer as the vital aspects the palnning process. We all in UESI will be reading the following books as per the schedule given below.
1. Daniel 12 Chapters
2. Haggai 02 Chapters
3. Zechariah 14 Chapters
4. Ezra 10 Chapters
5. Nehemiah 13 Chapters
6. Esther 10 Chapters
7. Malachi 04 Chapters
n Why only these books? Read them and find them.
n Who will be reading? The entire constituency of UESI. The individual units of UESI may take up these books or portions of them for study during group devotions, committee meeting devotions, EU / EGF Bible studies etc. Individual EU/EGF members in their Bible study time can follow the reading plan. These Scriptural portions studied
n What is the duration of the reading? September 12 to November 15 - 65 days.
